A day after my 27th birthday, I deactivated Instagram and went through two months of hibernation. The main reason was to acheive my long overdue career goal. But another pretty hefty reason was the sheer fact that I knew I had to grow and heal more than ever before. I didn’t see a single soul. No friends, no dating, no nothing. And for a sociable, bubbly extrovert like me.. it was the most difficult thing I had to do.
I have been a lone wolf for almost eight years. I live alone. My family are miles away. There were many sleepless nights, tears through the adversity and best friends via WhatsApp voice notes holding my bones together. Growth was never meant to be easy. You have to sit in the discomfort to heal.. but boy, was it worth it. In a mere few months, I felt like I grew so much and became a newer, better version of myself.
I think everyone needs a social media detox once in a while. Something I still need to do is review accounts I’m following and go on a mass unfollowing spree. Your energy is heavily affected by what you consume.. and when we mindlessly doom scroll on the gram for collective hours on end.. I don’t think it’s good for anyone’s mental sanity. Comparison becomes the thief of joy for many when in fact we are enough and there is no rush in life. Late bloomers and slow and steady race winners are welcome in this world.
Ghosting made me also realise how awful toxic positivity is. Life isn’t a happy, fake, aesthetically curated lifestyle. It’s real and rough and tough at times. I truly believe though that the tough times are part of God’s plan. We’re always guided, supported and loved. So for anyone feeling lost, broken and wanting to change their life, prioritise you and just keep going. Never quit. Especially on yourself. Healthy daily routines and habits with consistency really does work miracles. It gets better. I promise.
Love,
